According to the latest updates, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari performed the bhoomipujan (foundation stone ceremony) on 1 November for a multi-modal logistics park (MMLP), a hub that links road, rail and storage, at Sindi Railway in Wardha district, Maharashtra. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) says the 150 acre park near Sindi Railway station is being developed by National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), a special purpose vehicle (SPV) of the National Highways Authority of India, together with Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), through AMARA TRANZ Solution. All India Radio (AIR) reported that AMARA TRANZ Solution is carrying out the construction. Guardian Minister Dr Pankaj Bhoyar, MLA Sameer Kunawar, Collector Vanmathi C, former MP Ramdas Tadas and Sindi Railway Municipal Council President Rani Kalode attended.
This development matters because Vidarbha exporters of cotton, cotton lint, yarn, oranges and vegetables could send cargo by rail to JNPA, and Gadkari said cotton, textiles and oranges could reach Bangladesh through Haldia near Kolkata without routing through Mumbai. He said the cost per container should fall from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹1 lakh. The plans include cold storage, warehouses, exporter clusters and a customs office, and AIR reported that a first rake (full train load) carrying Maruti cars has already left the project.
In our expert opinion, the storage and cold chain part of this park matters more than the ceremony, because cold storage and warehouses beside a rail line cut the handling between farm, store and port. Exporters and third party logistics (3PL) firms around Nagpur and Wardha stand to gain, while road transporters on the long Mumbai run stand to lose some work. Coverage misses the project’s history, since The Times of India reported in May 2026 that Delta Corp’s earlier contract was terminated for missed milestones, that AMR India won a fresh bid, and that the Delhi High Court ordered status quo while arbitration continued. Neither the PIB nor the AIR report explained where that dispute stands now. We predict, with medium confidence, that the first warehouse or cold storage block at the park will not be operating before 31 December 2027.
This is important for our readers because a rail linked storage hub between Nagpur and Wardha changes where you might hold export cargo in central India. This week, ask NHLML or JNPA for the park’s leasing or tender timetable. If you ship cotton or oranges, compare your current cost per container with the ₹1 lakh figure Gadkari quoted.
